Meet Sean O’Neill, who recently achieved Elder Mediation International Certification (Cert EM).
Sean has worked with the Health Service Executive in Ireland for last 30 years. He began working as a Community Addiction Counsellor supporting families and local communities to find ways of dealing with the illegal drug epidemic. He was part of a team that negotiated ways forward for treatment facilities that is respectful to community’s needs. Sean then trained as a Systemic Family Therapist and began working in the Adult Mental Health Services and Psychiatry of Later Life (POLL). He is particularly dedicated to bringing the concerns and voice of the person experiencing illness to the treatment process.
Sean qualified as a mediator through the Edward Kennedy Institute, Maynooth University (2018), updated this qualification by attending The Law Society in Dublin (2023), and is accredited by The Mediators Institute of Ireland (MII).
Sean became interested in Elder Mediation when working with Psychiatry of Later Life and experienced the benefits of this approach on an almost daily basis. He has experienced first-hand the positive results of elder mediation when resolving difficulty within the family circle. This process puts the older person’s voice at the centre of all concerns through listening and talking in a respectful way
