Congratulations to Anna Walsh Doyle, the first mediator in Belgium to achieve Elder Mediation International Certification (Cert EM).

Anna is an experienced professional who has worked for over five decades at senior level in national and international public service. She is delighted to now join EMIN and sees this next step as offering a new and exciting dimension, not only in her own personal development, but also potentially opening up new possibilities for mediation practice and raising awareness of the value of exploring interdimensional power balancing and intergenerational harmony. Here is her pathway, so far.

After serving for 20 years in the Irish Public Service in the Ministries of Justice, Public Service, Agriculture and Lands (1971-1991), as a Principal Officer, she moved to Belgium in 1991 to a career in international public service at EUROCONTROL, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, headquartered in Brussels (1991-2018). Here she headed up the organisation’s health insurance scheme, their training and development portfolio, and later their social dialogue and People Support functions. She also created the Agency’s first Mediation Service in 2006, serving over 2,000 staff based in five European sites, and was Mediator and Ethics Officer until her retirement in 2018.

In 2019, she was appointed for 3 years as an external mediator to the European Space Agency, working with Result Mediation in the Netherlands. In 2020, she was nominated to the United Nations Global Mediation Panel as an external on-call mediator with the Office of the UN Ombudsman for Funds and Programmes https://fpombudsman.org/global-mediation-panel/ and is now in her 5th year there.

As well as being a skilled mediator, her expertise is in the fields of European public service governance, human resources management, wellbeing, social dialogue, industrial relations, business ethics, dignity in the workplace and promoting the overall safety of air navigation and safe working environments.

She is a founder member of the European Mediators’ Network Initiative (EMNI), an Advanced Practitioner with the Mediators’ Institute of Ireland, and a certified mediator with the International Mediators’ Institute https://www.imimediation.org/member/anna-doyle/. She is also a proud signatory of the Mediators’ Green Pledge www.womacc.org and has written to promote awareness on Magnifying the Power of the Mediators’ Green Pledge · Corporate Mediation Journal · Eleven Journals . She is currently Study Editor for Ireland working on the  initiative for Rebooting the EU Mediation Directive – 2024 Edition – Dialogue Through Conflict and their report is due early in 2025.

Anna believes in the power of mediation and is committed to raising awareness of the value of opening up safe and trusted spaces that can empower people, of all ages, to navigate safely, and creatively, through conflict. Currently based in Waterloo, Belgium, she works independently, providing mediation and conflict resolution services in English, French and Irish (Gaelic). anna.walsh.doyle@gmail.com
